Why we recommend signing up for GSPACE with Proton Mail
You can sign up for GSPACE with any email address, but we especially recommend Proton Mail: it is built for privacy, there is no confirmation email to wait for, and it suits anyone who wants to keep their chat account separate from their everyday inbox.
Privacy first
Proton is a privacy-focused email service from Switzerland. It does not read your mail to show you ads.
How secure is it
- Both sides on Proton: message content and attachments are end-to-end encrypted, and mail stored in your inbox can't be read even by Proton.
- With Gmail and other providers: not end-to-end encrypted by default; for sensitive mail, use Proton's password-protected emails. Subject lines are not end-to-end encrypted.
- Account security is still up to you: use a unique password and turn on two-factor authentication. Encryption can't stop phishing or a compromised device.
The free plan is enough
Proton's free plan includes 1 encrypted address, 150 messages a day, and 500 MB of mail storage (up to 1 GB after Proton's getting-started checklist). There are Proton Mail apps for iPhone and Android. For signing up to GSPACE and receiving notifications, it is plenty.
When your Google account is already linked to too much
If your Google account is already connected to too many services, or you would rather not tie your chat account to your everyday inbox, open a free Proton Mail address just for GSPACE.
GSPACE supports Proton Mail directly
Sign up for GSPACE with a Proton address (@proton.me, @protonmail.com, @pm.me, @protonmail.ch), enter a name and password, and your account is created and signed in right away, with no confirmation email. With any other address, we first send a confirmation email; sign-up finishes when you open the link inside within 24 hours and set your password.
You may be asked to verify
To keep out bots, Proton sometimes asks for a quick check: a CAPTCHA, or a code sent to your phone or another email address. Just follow the steps on screen.
Three steps to start
- Tap "Get Proton Mail free" to go straight to Proton's free sign-up page.
- Choose a username (that's your @proton.me address) and a password, and complete verification.
- Come back to GSPACE, tap "Sign up free", and enter your new Proton address, a name and a password. You're in.
